About

“It’s important to me that African stories be told by African people.” -Chimamanda Adichie (here)

I am seeking to read books by authors from every country in Africa. Please share with me what you recommend. Or link to your own reviews of books by African authors.

My name is David Evans. You can read about my day job here.

I recommend Beyond the Trial by Chigozie Anuli Mbadugha. It is available in e-book and paperback formats from Amazon, Kobo… It is a collection of short stories that will captivate and entertain you! Enjoy!

Hey, I write ‘reviews’ (but not quite, more like after-thoughts) on books I read, most of which are African. at macsnotebook.wordpress.com

I’d recommend I Do Not Come to You By Chance by Adaobi Tricia Nwubani and Urichindere by Dike-Ogu Chukwumerije.

I teach modern Africa in film and literature at the University of Missouri. I often introduce students to African literature with Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, but could recommend many other titles. One I enjoy is Thiong’o’s A Grain of Wheat. Another that is a favorite among my female students is Nozipo Maraire’ Zenzele.
